‘Border Tensions Peak as Afghan Strikes Kill at Least 50 Pakistani Soldiers,’ Claims Taliban Authorities

Kabul | 27 February 2026 | The Global Journal

Tensions have sharply escalated along the Pakistan–Afghanistan border, with Afghanistan’s ruling Taliban authorities claiming that at least 50 Pakistani soldiers were killed in retaliatory attacks in border regions

Yama Bariz, correspondent of the Afghan Service in Kabul, reported that strikes targeted Pakistani border posts in the eastern and southeastern parts of Afghanistan. Taliban government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid told the British media outlet BBC in an interview that Afghan forces had destroyed 19 Pakistani border posts and detained several Pakistani soldiers.

He further alleged that more than 50 Pakistani troops were killed in the clashes. However, the Taliban’s casualty figures have not yet been independently verified.

Meanwhile, authorities in Pakistan issued counterclaims, stating that they had destroyed 27 Afghan Taliban border posts and inflicted significant losses on Taliban forces.

The ongoing exchange of cross-border attacks has intensified diplomatic and military tensions between the two neighboring countries. Security analysts warn that the situation could have broader implications for regional stability, as relevant security and diplomatic circles continue to closely monitor developments.
