President Donald Trump Says Talks With Chinese President Xi Jinping Made Significant Progress on All Issues

WASHINGTON, USA | September 26, 2026 | The Global Journal

U.S. President Donald Trump said his talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping had made progress on all issues, although he did not provide details about the specific areas where the two sides reached an understanding or made progress.

Trump made the remarks while visiting the National Archives in Washington with Xi Jinping. Responding to questions from reporters, Trump said, “Everything. We had a great meeting. We had a really great meeting. Great for everybody.”

However, Trump did not disclose any specific decisions or agreements on trade, tariffs, technology, security or other bilateral issues.

Trump provides no details on outcome of talks

Although Trump described the talks as having made progress across all issues, the specific substance of the discussions has not yet been made public.

The actual outcome of the meeting on the various issues facing Washington and Beijing may become clearer through subsequent official statements or detailed announcements from the two governments.

The United States and China have recently faced differences over trade, tariff policies, technology, supply chains and broader geopolitical issues. Direct communication between the leaders of the two countries remains an important part of their bilateral relationship.

Trump comments on the histories of China and the United States

During the visit to the National Archives, Trump also commented on the long histories of the United States and China.

He said, “We’re just comparing. Ours goes 250 years. Which is great, and we’re proud of. Theirs goes 6,000 years. So there’s a little difference between 6,000 and 250. But we’re very proud of our 250.”

Trump’s remarks highlighted the contrast between the relatively short history of the United States as an independent nation and China’s much longer historical and civilizational heritage.

United States marks 250th anniversary

The United States is celebrating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence this year. The country marked the anniversary with various events on July 4.

Trump’s comments about American history came during his National Archives visit with Xi as the United States commemorates its 250th anniversary.

International attention on Trump-Xi talks

The meeting between the leaders of the United States and China has drawn significant international attention because of the two countries’ economic and geopolitical importance.

According to Trump, the talks made progress on all issues. However, until Washington and Beijing release more specific information about the discussions, the precise scope of the reported progress, the areas of potential understanding and the next steps remain unclear.
